Friends of KSPS Board Member

Kathleen Mackenzie

Kathleen Mackenzie has long been an active community volunteer in Spokane.

She founded the World Affairs Council of Spokane in 2005, an organization whose goal is to educate and engage communities on culturally diverse, global events and discuss how they affect citizens at the local level. As its President and board member, Kathleen was responsible for bringing in speakers including Ambassadors from Afghanistan and Syria as well as journalists, economists, American Ambassadors, and a variety of other professionals discussing culture, religion, economics, history and politics.

Kathleen has been a steadfast member and board president of Assistants, a local service group of 40 women who assist in the development and progress of music, art, literature and education in Spokane. They accomplish this with small grants and hands on volunteer work with groups such as Mission Community Outreach, My Bag, Symphony Associates, Our Place, Reach for the Future, Transitions and Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

She also worked with Catholic Charities for several years, as a companion and personal-care assistant to an elderly woman, delivering groceries for people who could not get out on their own and the Christmas Bureau.
