If the idiom "mind over matter" is true, is it possible that the mind can heal the body to promote better health? This question, among others, will be discussed at 7 pm/8MT Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 on the next installment of the Health Matters series. “The Mind-Body Connection" will feature a guest panel of four experts interested in hearing your thoughts and voicing opinion on how the mind can affect your body and health.
Do you believe that the mind has the power to affect your physical health? Please leave your questions and comments below.
Our intern Tori recently ran her first marathon here in Spokane. Reflecting back on the experience, she said the hardest part of the 26.2 miles was not the physical endurance, but the mental blocks she faced along the way.
She kept thinking, "Can I possibly finish this race? Will I make it to the finish line?"
What Tori discovered was the fact that determination of the mind can have precedence over training. Mental endurance is just as important as the miles you log on the road.
Tori finished the Spokane marathon within her targeted time. She has already registered for her next marathon, knowing that half the battle of running a race is believing you can make it to the finish line.
