Answer: 170 Million Americans

Question? How many Americans connect to public media every month in this country?

What a happy surprise I thought as I read those numbers on the KSPS website recently. Broken down the numbers show that  public television has an audience of 12.1 million people each month while 64.7 million people listen to public radio and 34 million unique visitors log on to public broadcast websites. Eliminating the crossover (-49.3 million) between the radio, TV and online audience, that brings the total public media audience to 171.3 million. Amazing! 

That's more than half of the "viewing public" who choose to watch or listen to public media every month. 

And one of the most encouraging statistics? The approximate number of answering machines with Carl Kasell's voice? That would be 2000!
