A Mighty Mission

KSPS is pleased to welcome The Mighty Mouth campaign as a partner to our KSPS FitKids! intiative.

The Mighty Mouth is committed to lasting approaches to improving the oral — and overall — health of everyone in Washington. The Mighty Mouth campaign is delivering the message, “You’re healthier with a healthy mouth” and is motivating people to do more to prevent oral disease. Oral health is a critical part of overall health for everyone — children and adults.

Did you know tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease but it is easily preventable? A few simple steps including brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, regular checkups and smart snacking will help children stay healthy.

Did you know flossing is important for children as soon as teeth touch? Flossing reaches 40 percent of tooth surfaces that a toothbrush can’t reach. Set an example for your children and floss every day.

Did you know fluoride toothpaste, rinses and varnish are important to strengthen teeth and prevent decay?

Did you know it’s not just sugary foods that cause cavities? Even snacks that many people think are “healthy,” such as granola bars and raisins, stick to teeth and cause decay if eaten too often. Choose tooth-friendly snacks such as fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and cheese.

Did you know frequent snacking or drinking sweet or acidic beverages— including juice, sports drinks, soda (even diet) — leads to cavities? Give teeth a rest and reduce the amount of time food and sweet drinks spend on teeth.

The Mighty Mouth, like KSPS, knows the value of education and creating healthy habits early and is proud to partner in this effort. Visit TheMightyMouth.org to learn more about the power of oral health and for a Guide to Smart Snacking.
