Federal Funding Update

Thanks to the support of hundreds of thousands of viewers and listeners, federal funding for public radio and television was preserved in the 2011 budget compromise bill passed on April 14. Thank you! Please stay tuned: public broadcasting funding will be targeted for elimination during the 2012 budget debate and your voice may be needed once again.

Federal funding provides an important share of KSPS' funding. It helps us deliver educational and commercial-free programming that expands children's minds, documentaries that open up new worlds to you, trusted news programs that keep you informed and provides exposure to the worlds of music, theater, dance and art.

Some say there is no longer a need for federal support for public broadcasting. Most important is what you think.

Every day, millions of people all across north America benefit from public broadcasting's commitment to education, culture and information. Yet the U.S. federal funding that's so important to our mission is now at risk. In the coming weeks, attempts will likely be made to eliminate the federal funds that help support this vital service and ensure that everyone has access.

Even though U.S. federal funding is less than 20 percent of the KSPS budget (and amounts to just $1.35 per person per year), these funds are critical to the work that KSPS does. They allow stations to pool our limited resources to bring you the programs that you count on every day — programs that educate and inspire... that open minds to endless possibilities... that bring us all together for civil discourse. Programs for everyone depend on the federal funding that is now threatened.

A note to our Canadian supporters:
Your financial support is more important now ever before. Though you may not have a voice in the US government, your voice is heard loud and strong at your station, through your contributions to KSPS. Thank you so much!
