Dear Friends,
Usually when I write to you, it’s an opportunity to promote a new documentary or Masterpiece, or to ask for your membership support.
But this time I’m here to talk to you about a challenge that can affect us all.
In the past few weeks, there has been a rising tide of people who don’t believe KSPS PBS is worthy of your time and your support. As a result, PBS – and KSPS – have been taking the brunt from members of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Imagine what it would be like if there were no more Sesame Street, no more Masterpiece, and no more NewsHour. I’ve been told many times that there’s nothing that can be done. I disagree.
For one thing, the work of Public Television is essential to all of us in the Inland Northwest, and our representatives need to understand that.
Nowhere else can families get PBS Kids, with free, proven educational tools to help parents be their children’s first teachers. And we’re local. Right here at home, the KSPS Education team shares the resources of PBS with families and schools in our communities, large and small, from Coeur d’Alene to Moses Lake; Colville to Palouse, and beyond.
We’re also the community connector -- bringing you programs for seniors and shut-ins and hardworking families… that educate, inspire, and connect us all. Take, for just an example, the the stories of the people who make the Inland Northwest unique on Northwest Profiles. Or the studio concerts from exceptional local artists you see on Inland Sessions. Or even the daily exercise program that helps keep our seniors at their best, Sit and Be Fit.
Make no mistake: KSPS PBS is for everyone. And I mean everyone.
Support from members like you has kept us strong for over 50 years.
Now, I’m asking for your support again, only this time it’s to make your voice heard in Congress.
This is a time when all of us are banding together to show how much you care about KSPS. Visit ProtectMyPublicMedia.org and make your voice heard.
If ever there was a time to rally around a cause, this is the time – and this is the place.
If you believe a group of people can become a groundswell, that there are people who understand the need for television that enriches, educates and informs, then this is your time, this is your place, and this is how we show our support .
I’m proud of the work we do…and I look forward to hearing from you, and working for you – now, and in the years to come.
